48  Outagamie

Outagamie County (pop. 191,000) is part of the Green Bay metro area. The county is demographically similar to state averages, with a somewhat higher median income and lower poverty rate. Politically, Outagamie has historically leaned Republican, but Democrats have made gains in recent cycles. Along with neighboring Brown and Winnebago, the “BOW” counties are one of the more competitive vote-rich areas of the state.

Most of the City of Appleton is within Outagamie County, where it makes up about a third of the population. Another 24,000 live in Grand Chute town and 17,000 in Kaukauna city. Appleton has become more Democratic-leaning in recent years. For instance, gave Scott Walker 52% of the vote in 2014, then Evers won 53% in 2018 and 58% in 2022. While the other large municipalities tilt Republican, but some of them have also shifted somewhat toward Democrats in recent cycles.
