St. Croix County (pop. 94,000) is located in northwestern Wisconsin along the Minnesota border, where it is part of the Twin Cities metro area. The county’s population is 93% white, and it has the second-highest median household income in the state. It leans Republican but several of the largest communities in the county have shifted toward Democrats since 2016.

St. Croix County’s population is spread across multiple communities with several thousand residents. The largest are the cities of Hudson (pop. 15,000) and New Richmond (pop. 10,000). Most municipalities lean strongly Republican, but a few of the larger ones (including Hudson) have shifted in a Democratic direction during the Trump era.
